Avoiding Toxins For Healthy Pets
As well as being passionate about human health, the health of animals and pets is also really important to me. Avoiding toxins for healthy pets is one crucial aspect to consider in their overall wellbeing.
“Dogs and cats were contaminated with 48 of 70 industrial chemicals tested, including 43 at levels higher than those typically found in people” – EWG study
Toxins in Pet Food
If you buy pet food, please check the ingredients and the integrity of the manufacturers. Pet food in Australia is not regulated so there is no standard to uphold. Cheaper pet food may come at a cost to your animals.
As well as being questionably nutritionally sound, some pet foods in Australia are regularly contaminated with plastic, metal and rubbish. A study found the presence of heavy metals in pets thought to be present due to ingestion via pet food.
Ideally, fresh home-made food is best for your pets and it’s not that hard to do. Ask your local vet for advice or check out some information online. I always recommend bone broth for dogs as it’s so good for their health. I also make pupsicles for my two, Stanley and Winnie (that’s them in the photo!)
There are quite a lot of foods that are toxic to dogs, so avoid human foods like chocolate, onion, garlic, alcohol, caffeine, grapes and raisins, xylitol and yeast dough.

Toxins in Pet Care
Pets are a much smaller size than us and have shorter lifespans so they are extra sensitive to toxins, chemicals and pollutants. Read the ingredients of all pet care products you give them.
There are so many natural solutions you can use for your pet’s health, including homeopathy and flower essences. If you are interested in learning more, I highly recommend reading this information on natural remedies for pets from Megan at The Simplest Remedy.
There are so many toxic ingredients in pet shampoo that should be avoided. Just like humans, our pet’s biggest organ is the skin, which absorbs anything you put on it. A full list of what to avoid can be found here.
This is exactly the reason I created my own Probiotic Pet Shampoo! I know exactly what’s in it and I have made sure all the ingredients are safe and non toxic for pets. I have included magnesium for soothing the skin, tea tree hydrosol for helping to repel fleas and probiotics to introduce good bacteria.
Toxins in The Home
Just like us, pets can ingest toxins in tap water, roll around on lawns and gardens with pesticides and breathe in indoor air pollution from chemical products used. Some chemicals can be harmful to dogs if they are ingested, inhaled, or make contact with skin and some toxins can enter the bloodstream and affect the major organs.
Any surface you clean can leave residue, so it pays to switch to an all natural home, using only safe cleaning products without harmful toxins. Always store toxins like paint, fertiliser, kerosene and medications out of reach of pets.
Culture Clean is formulated to be very safe for pets, so you can use it around the house without worrying.
Have you given much thought to a toxin-free diet and environment for your pet? Is this something that you think could improve their health? Let me know!
