Overweight? What has your gut got to do with it?
Ok I am always reading that exercise, taking in less food and getting the right hormone balance helps us to loose weight……..100% correct……..BUT did you know that Gut Health also plays an important role?
Gut health is my passion and I will explain how I understand it with no big words.
What is Obesity?
Obesity is one of the leading ‘preventable’ causes of death world-wide.
Key Facts:
- Worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980.
- In 2014, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Of these over 600 million were obese.
- 39% of adults aged 18 years and over were overweight in 2014, and 13% were obese.
- Most of the world’s population live in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than underweight.
- 42 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese in 2013.
- Obesity is preventable.

Gut Health:
Research has found that different kinds of bacteria that live inside our ‘digestive tracts’ play an important role in obesity and weight loss.
Some of the types of bacteria that live in our gut (bowel, colon, intestines, whatever you want to call it!) work harder at ‘removing’ calories better than others.
These amazing gut bacteria in our bowels can break down the waste and release calories rather than them being released into our bloodstream. This means the type of bacteria in our gut helps contribute to body weight and weight gain.
Some of the many factors that can upset our gut flora include: stress, diseases, medication, antibiotics, highly processed foods, preservatives, high intake of alcohol, high intake of caffeine, high sugar diet, low fat dieting, lack of sleep, laxative abuse etc.
To help build up the GOOD gut bacteria we need to: decrease stress levels, get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, consume probiotics (either as a supplement or in the food source of sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha, kim chi etc), don’t forget the intake of the super duper Bone Broth !!
This link is the bible guide to start your own Bone Broth. I also run a group called: Bone Broth Basics on Facebook.
This repair is NOT an instant result it can take years depending on the state of your gut. But working on it will help the repair and will help with the growth of healthy intestinal gut flora. This will also benefit in other ways such as: preventing illnesses, increased energy levels, noticeable changes in skin/hair, strengthening of the immune system etc etc etc……… you cant go wrong.…… Start working on your gut health TODAY!
