Zinc Boosting Bliss Balls
Zinc Boosting Bliss Balls are a yummy way to add the vital nutrient, zinc to delicious snacks.
Having a zinc deficiency is becoming increasingly common within the Australian population. It plays a major role in our bodies and is vital for good health.
Hormonal well-being (in both men and women) and growth and development in children relies on zinc.
Zinc is also important for a healthy immune system, prostate gland function, reproductive organ health, acne control, thyroid function, liver protection from chemical damage, bone formation and to maintain a concentration of vitamin E.
Foods naturally high in zinc:
Oysters, dark chocolate, mushrooms, pumpkin seeds (pepitas), flax seeds, sesame seeds, cocao, macadamia nuts, cashews, brazil nuts, egg yolk, kidney beans and coconut are all high in zinc.
These bliss balls contain several foods naturally high in zinc. My kids love them!
If time is limited, you can press into a lamington tin with the back of a metal spoon and sprinkle coconut on top instead of rolling into balls. Once cooled, they can then be cut into slices.
Sweetener is optional. Honey can be subbed for maple syrup.
Dried prunes can be subbed for dates.
The nuts can be omitted for nut-free lunch boxes with the seed ratio doubled.
Store in the fridge or freezer.
Enjoy!
