I have been using castor oil packs for years and thought I would share with you some more information about how castor oil packs can improve your health.
What is a castor oil pack?
A castor oil pack is a technique using castor oil applied on a cloth to the body to help heal. Castor oil can penetrate deeper into the body than any other oil. Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, which has been shown to have analgesic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory effects.
This healing ritual has roots in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. It is traditionally applied over the liver but can be used anywhere on the body from abdomen to back and legs.
What benefits are there in using a castor oil pack?
Castor oil packs may be useful for the following:
- increase lymphatic circulation
- increase blood flow
- alleviate pain
- assist in balancing hormones
- liver cleansing and detoxing
- reduce inflammation, arthritis and joint pain
- gut issues including leaky gut, bloating, crohns etc
- regulation of bowel movements
- sleep disturbances

- reducing scar tissue
- using on cysts and fibroids

How do you use a castor oil pack?
- Do a small skin test patch with the oil for 24 hours to check for rashes etc.
- Apply a tablespoon of castor oil to a castor oil pack or piece of cloth.
- Apply to the area needed (abdomen, liver area, legs, lower back etc). The most used area is the liver on the right side.
- Add heat in the form of a heat pack or hot water bottle (optional).
- Leave on for 45-60 minutes (optional overnight).
- Wipe off excess castor oil.
- You can use a castor oil pack daily, weekly or monthly depending on the condition you are treating.
Note that castor oil stains so use a special castor oil wrap or plastic wrap/old cloths to avoid staining bedding or clothing.
When should you not use a castor oil pack?
Do not use if pregnant, breastfeeding, menstruating or have diarrhoea. You should always consult your medical professional to see if castor oil packs are right for you and your health presentation before commencing.
